How long have you been teaching?

This is my first year as a full-time classroom educator, though my journey in music education began long before entering my own classroom. I have had the privilege of serving students through music instruction, choral leadership, accompanying, and other educational experiences.

What is a major goal you want to accomplish this year?

My major goal this year is to establish a culture of excellence within the Kirksey Middle School Choral Program—one that extends beyond musical performance and into every aspect of our scholars’ lives. I want to develop confident, disciplined, expressive musicians while also encouraging scholars to become responsible, respectful, and compassionate young people. I believe every scholar possesses a unique gift and deserves an environment where that gift can be discovered, developed, and celebrated. My goal is for excellence to become not simply something we achieve on stage, but a standard our scholars carry with them both inside and outside of the classroom.

Why do you enjoy teaching?

I enjoy teaching because I find tremendous purpose in helping young people recognize their potential and experience success. One of the most rewarding aspects of education is witnessing the moment when a scholar begins to believe in their own ability. As an educator and a Christian, my values are grounded in service, compassion, integrity, respect, and the belief that every individual has value and purpose. I strive to create a classroom where every scholar is valued, respected, challenged, supported, and reminded that their voice deserves to be heard. Teaching music allows me not only to develop musicians, but also to help cultivate confidence, character, leadership, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for excellence.

What are you most excited about for this upcoming school year?

I am most excited about building and developing the Kirksey Middle School Choral Program and discovering the gifts within our scholars. I look forward to watching students grow from individual voices into a unified ensemble while developing confidence in themselves and one another. I am especially excited about creating meaningful musical experiences, establishing traditions, representing Kirksey with excellence, and giving our scholars opportunities to share their talents with the school and community. Above all, I look forward to celebrating their growth and reminding them that every voice matters, every scholar has something valuable to contribute, and excellence is achievable when we work together with purpose.
